Our Hospital in all aspects has the requirements to be classed as a fully fledged Comprehensive Eye Care facility with the assistance of a grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF).

ABOUT US

The Lion's Gift of Sight Hospital, Panadura (LGOSHP) is the largest image-building continuous project of District 306 A-1 situated at Galgoda Maha Viharaya Road, Galgoda, Panadura. The Hospital is managed by a Board of Trustees appointed by Lions Clubs International District 306 A1. The Hospital is registered as a Private Hospital by the Ministry of Health Sri Lanka on a license issued by the Private Health Services Regulatory Council, under Registration No. PHSRC/PH/151. The Lions Eye Hospital consists of two fully equipped Operating Theaters, three Consultation Rooms for our Consultant Surgeons and Medical Officers, three wards with attached wash rooms and separate toilets for visitors, with a capacity of 40 beds, and other facilities for comfort of the patients, and serviced by competent Eye Consultants, visiting Eye Surgeons and experienced Eye Care Doctors and Nursing Staff.

YAG LASER III

The VISULAS YAG iii combi from Carl Zeiss is the “multi-purpose” laser for retinal photocoagulation, secondary cataract treatment and for laser glaucoma therapies.

OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY

With Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), your ophthalmologist can see each of the retina’s distinctive layers.

NON MYDRIATIC FUNDAS CAMERA

A fundus camera is a specialized low power microscope with an attached camera. Its optical design is based on the indirect ophthalmoscope.

PHACO EMULSIFICATION

Phacoemulsification is a modern cataract surgery in which the eye’s internal lens is emulsified with an ultrasonic headpiece and aspirated from the eye.

AUTO KERATOMETER WITH REFRACTOMETER

Auto refractors Keratometer (Auto Ref Keratometer) are used to measure the degree of refractive error in the eye and are suited well toward applications

HUMPHREY VISUAL FIELD ANALYSER

Humphrey visual field analyses (HFA), is a tool for measuring the human visual field, it is used by optometrists, orthoptists and ophthalmologists, particularly for detecting monocular visual field.

SLIT LAMP WITH APPLANATION TONOMETER

Tonometer is a diagnostic test that measures the pressure inside your eye, which is called intraocular pressure (IOP).

INDIRECT OPHTHALMOSCOPE

The binocular indirect ophthalmoscope or indirect ophthalmoscope is an optical instrument worn on the examiner’s head and sometimes attached to spectacles

SLIT LAMP

A slit lamp is a microscope with a bright light used during an eye exam. It gives your ophthalmologist a closer look at the different structures at the front of the eye and inside the eye.

Cataract Surgeries

Inside our eye, we have a natural lens. The lens blends (refracts) light rays that come into the eye to help us see. The lens should be clear. Aging is the most common cause of cataract. This is due to normal eye changes that happen starting around 40 years. That is when normal proteins in the lens start to break down. This is what causes the lens to get cloudy. People over 60 usually start to have some clouding of their lenses. However, vision problems may not happen until years later.

COMPREHENSIVE EYE CARE

We are pleased to announce that LCIF has approved our grant application to upgrade our Hospital to the standard of A COMPREHENSIVE EYE CARE HOSPITAL. The following services will be available within the next three months using following equipment provided under LCIF grant. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT Scan), Phaco Emulsifier (Presently the Lens suppliers provide this Service), Yag Laser III, Auto Keratometer with Refractormeter, Non-mydriatic digital fundas camera, Slit Lamp with Applanation Tonometer, Mini Autoclave Machine,3 Mirror Lens & 90 D Lens, Indirect Ophthalmoscope, Direct Ophthalmoscope, Streak Retinoseope

We have successfully done 17,156 Cataract surgeries from July 2015 to January 2022

We have treated 111,914 patients from July 2015 to January 2022.

We have done 5,716 FREE TO PATIENT surgeries from July 2015 to January 2022.

Carried out 155 outreach camps and students camps in schools from July 2017 to January 2022.
